A few days in August at Glomma river in Norway together with J:son changed my view of flies and fly tying. I've always loved beautiful fishing gear and since many years I fish exclusively with cane rods that I build myself and classic s-handled reels by Bo Mohlin of Sweden.
J:son's ideas about fly tying has taken beauty and functionality a bit further down the road. J:son's simple recipe for ant contains five ingredients: hook, thread, foam, hackle and wing. It all becomes a super-realistic fly that "fools the shirt" of most graylings, even days like these when there was hardly any hatching at all. It's also unsinkable and more durable than comparable flies.
Säveåns larger trout are not easy to fool especially not with dry flies. A superrealistic Danica Imitation tied using J:sonSystem, together with a bamboo rod and a s-handled reel, makes the perfect combination of beauty and function. Results: A beautiful brown trout "model large" that had to spend just a few seconds above the surface. Hopefully we'll meet again?
